FAST FLOOD WATCH
At 4:09pm Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for northeast New Jersey, including West Essex. The Watch is expected to be in effect from midnight tonight until 6pm Wednesday.
Showers will likely become heavy at times from late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning or early Wednesday afternoon. Rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are likely during the periods of heaviest rain. Widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches and locally over 4 inches are possible. The advisory was issued due to the forecast for heavy rains and the ensuing potential for flooding of small streams.
West Essex NOW will continue to monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
