Essex County Hosting Free Outdoor Movie Night Screening of "Divergent;" Friday, June 19; 7pm; Kip's Castle, 22 Crestmont Road, Montclair
MONTCLAIR / VERONA, NJ - Throughout the month of June, Essex County will be hosting a Free Outdoor "Friday Night Flicks" Movie Night at Kip’s Castle when popular movies for children and adults will be shown under the stars. This week, the county will be offering the screening of "Divergent." The event will take place on Friday, June 19, with special pre-movie activities, including an Archery Demonstration
starting at 7pm. The movie will start at dusk about 8:25pm. The Castle is located at 22 Crestmont Road, Montclair - right on the border of Verona.

Kip's Castle was built in 1902 by Frederic E. Kip, a wealthy textile manufacturer and investor. The 9,000-square-foot mansion is a replica of a medieval Norman castle and is constructed of local trap rock trimmed with sandstone. Many of the rooms are uniquely designed with round or octagonal shapes and vaulted ceilings. There are six ornately designed fireplaces throughout the structure. There also is a 6,000-square-foot, two-story carriage house that was renovated in 1984 to accommodate offices. The property is located on 11 acres on the ridge of First Mountain, and provides spectacular views.

WEST ORANGE, NJ - This weekend, the Essex County Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh will be hosting their annual 2015 Irish Sports Expo. All are welcome at the Irish sport and cultural event which will include hurling and rugby matches as well as traditional Celtic entertainment. Game admission also includes soft drinks, beer and food. The gathering takes place Sunday, June 14, from 12pm to 7pm at the Kelly Athletic Complex, directly behind the Club which is located at 648 Prospect Avenue, West Orange.

Essex County Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh

Founded in 1967, the Friendly Sons of the Shillelagh is known as one of the premier Irish-American organizations in the state. The social and charitable organization has a large clubhouse in West Orange with a bar open to the public which is known for its hospitality, welcoming atmosphere and its diversity of entertainment offerings. The Shillelagh Club is host to many Irish groups in the area including the Ancient Order of Hibernians; the Women of Irish Heritage and The Essex County Police and Fire Emerald Society. Additionally, the Friendly Sons support various charitable organizations including the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Avon Walk for Life, and Wounded Warriors.
Livingston Paper Shredding to Benefit East Coast Tsunami 14U Girls Softball Team; Saturday, Sept. 27, 10am to 2pm
LIVINGSTON, NJ - On Saturday, Sept. 27, the East Coast Tsunami 14u Girls Travel Softball Team is hosting a paper shredding fundraiser to benefit their organization. A paper shredding truck will be parked from 10am to 2pm at 355 Eisenhower Parkway,
Livingston, and anyone can just pull up and have their confidential documents destroyed while they wait. Staples, clips, binders and books are all fine and all paper will be recycled. There is no need to make an appointment.
"It's a great way to clear the clutter and help a local youth organization," commented the event coordinator Joe Coletta.
The team is asking for a donation of $6 per standard file box or bag of paper. All money collected will go towards equipment and tournament fees. The team is comprised of girls from Essex, Bergen, Morris, Hudson and Passaic Counties.
West Essex Area Police and Fire Departments to Host Third Annual “Battle of the Badges” to Benefit US Marine Sgt. Aaron Alonso on Sunday, Sept. 28, Starting at 11am
VERONA, NJ - This Sunday, West Essex area police and fire departments will come together in an effort to raise funds and recognition for "Alonso Strong" an organization which emotionally and financially assists the family of disabled veteran Sgt. Aaron Alonso of the United States Marine Corps.
What started eight years ago as a softball competition between the Cedar Grove Police Department and the Cedar Grove Fire Department has now grown to include the Caldwell, North Caldwell, Verona and West Caldwell police departments and
North Caldwell, Verona and West Caldwell fire departments as well.
Sunday’s event takes place on Veteran’s Field, behind the Verona Community Center, located at 880 Bloomfield Avenue, Verona.
The event will begin with opening ceremonies at 11am and continue throughout the day with softball games, children’s activities, entertainment and refreshments. The public is welcome to attend and are asked to give a donation of their choosing. The food and activities will all be donated; 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Alonso Strong Project.
Alonso left for his overseas deployment only one week after his wife gave birth to their daughter, Riley. Over the past months, the Marine has undergone multiple surgeries. All funds raised at Sunday's tournament will all go towards expenses for him and his family.

WEST ORANGE, NJ - On Saturday, friends of Brendan Tevlin will be hosting the first annual "Brendan Tevlin Lacrosse Festival" on the grounds of Seton Hall Prep's Kelly Athletic Complex. The game will start at 10am and the event includes raffles and refreshments. The complex is located at 700 Prospect Avenue, West Orange.
