Published 9:55pm ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - This week, the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell will be hosting a presentation by noted C.S.Lewis educator Anne Wilcox who will explore Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. All are welcome at the free event on Wednesday, June 10 at 7pm. The discussion will take place in Room 120 at the church, at 326 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell. Childcare will be provided upon request. Anne Wilcox Wilcox is a Teacher in Residence and Assistant Professor at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. She has studied C.S. Lewis extensively and has taught a course on "The Literary Genre of the Chronicles of Narnia" at the C.S. Lewis Summer Institute, in Oxford. Chronicles of Narnia C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia" are epic stories filled with high adventure and deep engagement for readers of every age. Wilcox will discuss connections between the Christ of our world and the Aslan of Narnia. Readers will appreciate the theological issues and moral choices found in the stories. There will be no spoilers; Wilcox will survey the group to see where they are in the Chronicles. Published 2:05pm ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend the youth Westminster and Pilgrim Choirs of the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell will be presenting the musical "Children of Eden" in Fellowship Hall of the church located at 326 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell. The choirs have been rehearsing for six months, including a one week-long tour in Seattle, Washington and are excited to present their production to the community. Based on the Book of Genesis and written by John Caird with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, "Children of Eden" is a two-act musical which offers a fun twist on the stories of Adam and Eve and Noah and the Flood. The themes of parent/child relationships resonate well with audiences, along with the bittersweet and inspiring message: “the hardest part of love… is letting go." Published 7:12pm ![]() VERONA, NJ - This weekend, Our Lady of the Lake parish is hosting a "Women's Cornerstone" retreat. The 26-hour experience is open to all women in the surrounding area, beginning on Friday, March 20, at 6:30pm and ending on Saturday, March 21, at 8pm. Participants are asked for a donation of $50 which will cover all meals, including dinner on Friday evening. Women will experience a comfortable, non-judgemental, atmosphere to enable them to grow personally in the knowledge and love of God. All participants have the option of staying overnight at the parish or sleeping at home and returning for Morning Prayer on Saturday morning. During the weekend, there will be time for private prayer, the celebration of Reconciliation and Mass. The retreat takes place on the parish grounds which is located at 32 Lakeside Avenue, Verona. Published 11:40pm ![]() FAIRFIELD, NJ - The Youth Group of St. Thomas More Church will host a night of hope and praise when Dave Pettigrew presents contemporary Christian songs featuring a powerful message combined with strong vocals and intelligent writing. The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7, beginning at 7pm. Admission is free, but donations would be gratefully accepted; refreshments will also be available. The church is located at 12 Hollywood Avenue, Fairfield. A graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Pettigrew now lives in New Jersey and often performs along the Eastern Seaboard. He says that his multiple releases are a look into his life and a walk with God, and his music are songs for the everyday person, people who struggle with their faith, but want to know more.

The evening begins with a supper at 5:30pm followed by a talk which runs from 6:15pm to 7:45pm. The Advent workshop takes place on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Caldwell Dominican Motherhouse located at 1 Ryerson Avenue, Caldwell. The Lumen Center is directed by Sister Patricia Crowley, OP, and has evolved into a major center for spirituality programs. The presentation will be led by Dennis Corcoran, M.A., who is also a musician; Corcoran will weave story and song for a meaningful evening. The center asks for an offering of $25. Santa is scheduled to arrive at the Caldwell Fire Department at 4:30pm, parade throughout the neighborhoods and end up at 5pm on the Caldwell Green just in time for the Tree Lighting Ceremony. Following the tree lighting, everyone is invited to gather inside the Caldwell Fire House where refreshments will be served, music will be provided by DJ Joe Garamella and there will be a Holiday Auction with many prizes. The auction will be held to benefit the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Dept. Children’s Education Fund. Sunday, Dec. 21 10:30am and on Beginning at 10:30am, the Caldwell Fire Department will drive through every street in town with Santa on board handing out candy canes. Sunday, Dec. 21 10am From 10am until about 5:30pm, the Fairfield Fire Department will be driving Santa around for a happy ride through all of the streets in Fairfield. NORTH CALDWELL
The North Caldwell Fire Department will make sure Santa makes a grand entrance on one of their trucks while also giving out candy canes. The North Caldwell Boy Scouts will serve hot chocolate and cider and live music will be provided from DJ Legendery. For a special treat this year, the Dapper Dans of Harmony barber Shop Quartet will entertain the guests with a salute to the troops. In addition, the North Caldwell Girl Scouts will be accepting new, unwrapped, toys for their annual toy drive. Gifts are needed for boys and girls ages 8-15 years old. Saturday, Dec. 20 12pm Throughout the day, the North Caldwell Fire Department will give Santa a tour of the borough while greeting the children who come out to wave. The evening begins at 6:15pm with a performance from the Roseland Methodist Church Bell Choir. The bells will be followed with Christmas music until the 7pm tree lighting and the arrival of Santa Claus. Following the lighting, the borough hosts a reception with Santa which includes music and dance and refreshments. Tuesday, Dec. 16 6:15pm Borough Common 140 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland On the first night of Chanukah, the mayor and council take part in a celebration for the Festival of Lights. Starting at 6:15pm, Rabbi Kasowitz will begin by blessing the Menorah, followed by the lighting at 6:30pm. Singing, dancing and a reception with refreshments will then take place inside the Borough Hall. Sunday, Dec. 21 3:30pm to 9pm Santa will be riding through the streets of Roseland on a Roseland Fire Engine, accompanied by a festive holiday truck, music, and lots of elves in turnout gear. Weather permitting, the parade will start on Laurel Avenue at 3:30pm and continue through the town, visiting every street. The parade completes on Passaic Avenue at approximately 9pm. Published 7:44pm ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - The First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell will be hosting their annual Advent Arts and Crafts Festival this weekend at 326 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell. The free event will run from 2pm to 4:30pm on Sunday, Nov. 30. Attendees are asked to register in advance with the church and to bring an item which will be donated to the Caldwell Food Pantry. Following the crafting period, there will be a brief Advent devotional followed by a carol sing. The Advent Festival will be held in the church’s Fellowship Hall, located at the Westville Avenue side of the church complex; the hall is easily accessible by elevator. Advent Arts and Crafts Festival The festival will offer the opportunity for both families and individuals to prepare for Christmas with a warm and welcoming congregation. It marks the beginning of Advent, a period of readying for Christmas. Fifteen different craft stations will offer a variety of choices and all supplies will be provided at no cost. Although volunteer helpers will be on hand at each table, parents are encouraged to work with young children, as this is intended to be an opportunity to promote family togetherness. Older children, teenagers, and adults will find it easy to participate alone or with a friend. This year’s projects include:
The crafting sessions will end at 4pm and will be followed by a brief devotional time centering on the First Sunday of Advent, led by Senior Pastor Dr. Rick Sommers.
