![]() ROSELAND, NJ - This week, the Essex County Environmental Center is hosting Rutgers Essex County Master Gardeners who will present “Indoor Kitchen Gardening, Year Round." The class is for adults who are interested in learning about harvesting in all four seasons. Apartment dweller and those with limited gardening space will be instructed on how to create a four-season garden at home to supplement their grocery trips. The instructor will present a simple plan for creating one crop each season, including what equipment will be needed and how to get started. Members of the group will be in Garibaldi Hall creating art from pieces of wood. New adult members are always welcome; cost is $10 per person. The meeting takes place on Monday, June 22, at 7pm, at the Center, located at 621 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland. The monthly meetings are well attended and feature a wide selection of topics from demonstrations, to auctions, to show and tell. Published 11:10am ![]() SOUTH MOUNTAIN, NJ - This week, the Essex County Environmental Center is offering a Wildlife Walk through South Mountain Reservation and all are welcome. The gathering takes place on Tuesday, June 9, at 6pm. The group is gathering for the walk near the entrance to the Dog Park on Crest Drive at the intersection of West South Orange Avenue in South Orange. Hikers will be led by a naturalist as they experience a guided nature walk within the wildflower preserve. Participants will identify different plants and discuss their ecological benefits and traditional use as food, medicine and craft.

The gathering takes place on Tuesday, June 9, from 3:30pm to 4:45pm, at the center which is located at 621 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland. The class is geared for adults and its focus is on the many benefits of long-held, seated poses. Participants are taught poses which lengthen the tissues that connect, wrap and interweave the muscles that help to increase their range of motion and free up areas of limitation. The class cultivates a meditative state in each pose, as well as a seated meditation at the end of class. Adults are asked to dress comfortably and bring their own mat.

The children will work on the learning garden, or in the case of rain, take part in an indoor activity. The group gathers on Tuesday, June 9, from 4pm to 5pm in Garibaldi Hall; the Center is located at 621 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland. The class is geared for children in Grades 1 through 9. Members will learn information about how vegetables and flowers grow and fun information such as where spaghetti sauce comes from and how to find a rainbow in a garden.
