Howard Libov is a Professor of Film at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison. Aside from teaching Film at FDU, Libov is also an award-winning film director, producer and screenwriter whose work has appeared on HBO, Showtime, Cinemax, and PBS. “Unlikely Heroes in Film" Presentation Libov is expected to analyze and discuss film clips involving “unlikely heroes” in such movies as “Hud” starring Paul Newman, “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” starring Jim Carrey, ”Get Low” starring Robert Duvall and Bill Murray and ”Favorite Son” written and directed by Libov himself. All are welcome at the gathering which will include many family activities and entertainers, along with a patriotic salute to Independence Day. Refreshments including ice cream and popcorn will be offered to guests and the Cloverleaf Tavern will also be offering meals for sale. This year, the Association is hosting a judged Short Bread bake-off which will be awarded wth prizes. ShortBread Bake-Off This year, the Association is hosting a judged Short Bread bake-off which will be awarded wth prizes at 3pm. Adults and children are welcome to try their hand at creating the cookie using only 19th-century ingredients. The rules are as follows:
The flag ceremony will begin at 1pm and will include the reading of the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson and the flag raising will be performed by the scout honor guard. Caldwell’s Mayor Ann Dassing will give the welcoming remarks.
Published 11:40pm WEST CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend, members of the 15th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry Company E will be pitching their tents on the grounds of the historic Zenas Crane Homestead. The Civil War reenactors will conduct military drill exercises and demonstrate the lives of Union soldiers; the public is welcome to converse with the soldiers and observe their activities. The Unit includes over 40 members from the East Coast whom regularly participate in historical heritage presentations. The free event takes place on Saturday, June 20, from 1pm to 4pm and in the evening the public are welcome back to the campsite to experience stories and songs around a campfire. John Hagerty, the talented instructor, Chess Master and president of the West Orange Chess Club, will continue to teach this fine bunch of avid chess learners and players in the ins and outs of chess and exciting moves from chess masters of long ago. Noecker Principal Laura Dacosta Contract Renewal Hearing to be Held Monday, June 1 at 7:30pm5/31/2015
Published 11:05am ROSELAND, NJ - Noecker School Principal Laura Dacosta was recently informed by the newly hired School Superintendent Lisa Gross that her contract would not be renewed for the upcoming school year. In a show of support for her continued employment, Noecker School parents are expected to turn out en masse to the school's Board of Education Meeting which will include the principal's Contract Renewal Hearing. The past two board meetings have included open comment sessions during which parents have strenuously voiced their opposition to Dacosta's termination. Signs in support of the principal have sprouted up throughout the Borough and many parents are expected to wear Noecker's school color of red to the meeting. The meeting will take place Monday, June 1, at 7:30pm in the school's Media Center.
