Published 6:13pm ![]() WEST CALDWELL, NJ - In August, the West Caldwell Public Library will be hosting a book and film discussion centered around Cormac McCarthy’s harrowing novel "No Country for Old Men.” As the library continues its "Heroes and Antiheroes in Literature and Film" summer reading series, readers are invited to read McCarthy's novel (copies are available at the Reference Desk) and are also welcome to come to the library and view the book's Academy award-winning film Best Picture film. Immediately following the movie there will be a lively discussion of the book and film and light refreshments will be served. The free event takes place on Wednesday, July 15, at 5:30pm in the library's Community Room. In order to prepare for its guests, the library requests that those attending let them know in advance. "No Country for Old Men" Starring Javier Bardem, Tommy Lee Jones and Josh Brolin, "No Country for Old Men" tells the tale of rural Texas, where welder and hunter Llewelyn Moss discovers the remains of several drug runners who have killed each other in an exchange gone violently wrong. All are welcome at the free event which takes place Saturday, June 13, from 1pm to 3pm. Published 9:55pm ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - This week, the First Presbyterian Church at Caldwell will be hosting a presentation by noted C.S.Lewis educator Anne Wilcox who will explore Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia. All are welcome at the free event on Wednesday, June 10 at 7pm. The discussion will take place in Room 120 at the church, at 326 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell. Childcare will be provided upon request. Anne Wilcox Wilcox is a Teacher in Residence and Assistant Professor at Whitworth University in Spokane, Washington. She has studied C.S. Lewis extensively and has taught a course on "The Literary Genre of the Chronicles of Narnia" at the C.S. Lewis Summer Institute, in Oxford. Chronicles of Narnia C.S. Lewis' "Chronicles of Narnia" are epic stories filled with high adventure and deep engagement for readers of every age. Wilcox will discuss connections between the Christ of our world and the Aslan of Narnia. Readers will appreciate the theological issues and moral choices found in the stories. There will be no spoilers; Wilcox will survey the group to see where they are in the Chronicles. The meeting is open to the public and new members are always welcome. The gathering will take place on Wednesday, June 24, at 7:15pm at the library located at 20 Roseland Avenue, Roseland. Written by Susan Vreeland, "Lisette's List" is set in 1937 in a village in Provence, France. The historical fiction novel follows Lisette as she gives up the sophistication of Paris when she moves to Provence with her husband to care for his ailing grandfather.
