Published 3pm NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend, the North Caldwell Fire Department is inviting the West Essex community to celebrate the recent arrival of two new members of their rescue fleet - the 2015 Pierce Rescue / Pumper "Engine No. 4" - and their new Initial Attack Vehicle. The department is hosting a "Dual Wetdown" on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 2pm to 10pm. The free event will be held at their firehouse, located at 134 Gould Avenue, North Caldwell, and all are welcome. FOOD/ DRINK COST Tickets are not required for the occasion; for those interested, food and beverages will be available for purchase. In addition, there will be entertainment from a DJ.
![]() A wetdown is a ritual celebrated by many rescue departments during which a new vehicle is put into commission by anointing it with water sprayed by another rescue apparatus. At Saturday's wetdown, the traditional hose fights are expected to take place as neighboring fire departments arrive to anoint the new engine. All guests will be able to get a closer look inside the vehicle as well. Additional, the department will be awarding prizes to the fire department which does the following:

Published 10:10am ![]() WEST CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend, the West Essex community will come together in an effort to raise money to find a cure for cancer. Formerly the Relay for Life of Caldwell, the Relay for Life of West Essex has grown into a larger undertaking which now encompasses teams and individuals from all around the West Essex area. Janice Alworth Stickels is directing this year's efforts and is sending a call out to all in the community to participate in the Relay on the day of the event, or to show their support by coming in person to cheer on the walkers. Food will be available for purchase from local restaurants which will be offering refreshments during the occasion. This will be the first year the event takes place from noon until midnight instead of walking overnight as groups have in the past. So far 17 teams and 128 participants have registered and have raised over $34,400. Anyone can show up at the gathering and join the walkers by making a donation of their choosing; there is no registration fee. Additionally, a host of activities for all ages will take place throughout the day for everyone to come by and enjoy. All monies raised will benefit the American Cancer Society. The relay takes place on Saturday, June 13, from 12pm to 12am, at James Caldwell High School's Bonnel Field, located at 265 Westville Ave, West Caldwell. Relay for Life of West Essex Teams So far, 17 teams and 128 participants have raised over $34,400 for the 2015 fundraising year. Everyone is welcome to come to the walk on the day of the event, make their own donation, and participate as well. Together, all of the team and individual donations raised are collectively donated by Relay for Life of West Essex to the American Cancer Society. The registered teams are as follows:

The event is their only fundraising event each year and allows the organization to raise funds which it then disperses to needy individuals and charitable organizations throughout the West Essex area. Tickets include Casino gaming chips, a buffet dinner, Cocktails and dessert. Those who win chips then trade them in for tickets which are used at the Tricky Tray at the end of the evening. The event, which consists of a variety of musical performances performed by the school's theatre students, takes place on Saturday, June 6, at 7:30pm, in the school's cafeteria.
