All are welcome at the Irish sport and cultural event which will include hurling and rugby matches as well as traditional Celtic entertainment. Game admission also includes soft drinks, beer and food. The gathering takes place Sunday, June 14, from 12pm to 7pm at the Kelly Athletic Complex, directly behind the Club which is located at 648 Prospect Avenue, West Orange. 2015 Sports Expo The day will host two hurling matches and one rugby match

The social and charitable organization has a large clubhouse in West Orange with a bar open to the public which is known for its hospitality, welcoming atmosphere and its diversity of entertainment offerings. The Shillelagh Club is host to many Irish groups in the area including the Ancient Order of Hibernians; the Women of Irish Heritage and The Essex County Police and Fire Emerald Society. Additionally, the Friendly Sons support various charitable organizations including the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, Avon Walk for Life, and Wounded Warriors.

On Saturday, March 21, a team including Roseland's Assistant Chief Rich Loveless, Lt. Matthew Popola, Firefighter/EMT Barry Bachenheimer, and Firefighters Perry Lee and Andy Vogel, will join hundreds of other tri-state area firefighters in the unique "vertical road race" fundraising event which will take place at the 57 stories tall One Penn Plaza, in New York City. The skyscraper will challenge climbers to make their way up to the top of the building through 55 staircases made up of 22 steps between each floor. "Think 55 floors are bad enough? Published 12:05pm ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - This week, Carolynn O'Brien Navarro and Jesus Navarro are hosting an event in partnership with the Cloverleaf Tavern in an effort to raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society which helps patients who are battling blood cancers. Cloverleaf diners who purchase a meal, including take-out, on Tuesday, Feb. 24, between the hours of 5pm to 9pm, will have a portion of their check donated by the Cloverleaf to the Society. No reservations are necessary, but diners will need to let the server know that they are there supporting the LLS fundraiser. The tavern is located at 395 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. The Navarros are part of a group of 30 runners called Caldwell Team R4C that run to increase awareness of Leukemia and Lymphoma. In 2014, the team raised over $65,000 and have raised a total of $275,000 since they began in 2008. For the seventh year, the couple is also training to participate in the New Jersey / Long Branch Half Marathon as members of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s "Team in Training" (TNT) on April 26. "We joined TNT in 2008 to try to raise funds and increase The mission of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
Published 11:55am ![]() ROSELAND / ESSEX FELLS, NJ - The 6th Annual Running 4 Answers 5K Race and 2-mile Fun Run / Fitness Walk will take place the last Saturday in April and registration is now open for participants. Both runners and walkers are needed for the event which begins at 8:30am on Saturday, April 25 and all money raised will benefit the “Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.” Started by two Roseland women, Carolyn Mastrangelo and Barbara Geiger, the USATF-NJ sanctioned and certified race and 2-mile fun run/fitness walk provides participants with 500 Grand Prix points and is chip-timed. It will take place rain or shine beginning at the Roseland Municipal Building located at 19 Harrison Avenue Roseland. Personal trainer and race co-director Mastrangelo first conceived of the competition in 2009 because she could not find any other race benefiting Alzheimer’s disease. “Having lost my mother-in-law to breast cancer, I knew there were Registration Registration is available online here and individuals may also register in person on Saturday, April 25. "So much of what I could say, share or explain is sad," ![]() According to the race founders, all proceeds benefit the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund; last year the local race raised $40,000 and over the past five years it has raised a total of $175,000. The mission of the fund is to put all dollars raised towards research and so far that research has identified more than 70 genes linked to the disease. Anyone interested in donating to the fund may do so online here. According to its website, one hundred percent of all funds raised for the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund go directly towards researching a cure for Alzheimers. So far the group has donated over $15 million to research in twenty-four different institutions across the country and all research studies done are shared among the participating medical research institutions. Published 7:10pm ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - Trinity Academy's fourth annual "5K Reindeer Run/Walk and Jingle Jam" will take place next weekend, Saturday, Dec. 6. The run travels through Caldwell, West Caldwell and North Caldwell while the Jingle Jam takes place at the school, located at 235 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell. Race participants must register and pay an entrance fee of $30; there is also a "Santa Shuffle" for ages3 to 7 which is free. All race proceeds benefit Trinity Academy. The combination Run/Walk will take place rain or shine, beginning at 9:30am, and at the same time, the Jingle Jam takes place in the school's gym and continues until 1:30pm. The Jingle Jam will include holiday festivities for the whole family. Donations of new pajamas and books, which will be given to the Pajama Project, will be accepted as well. 5K Reindeer Run/Walk The 5K route is 3.1 miles long and is a sanctioned USATF-NJ NB 500 Point Grand Prix Race. The race starts and ends at Trinity Academy and includes one water stop. Course marshals will monitor key turns and intersections along the course. Hot coffee and bagels will be provided for all runners.
