If you've never been inside the Llewellyn Park complex in West Orange - now is your day to go. Thomas Edison's Glenmont home is open today for free tours, which means you'll be able to see inside of the residence as well as drive around the beautiful homes.
Llewellyn was America's very first planned residential community. At one time, the Colgate family lived in the development, and it was also home to abolitionist James Miller McKim who used his residence as an Underground Railroad safe house. Both Eleanor Roosevelt and Bill Clinton have visited homes here, and Whoopi Goldberg currently owns a home from where she commutes to her work in the city.

25th Annual Grover Cleveland Birthplace Ice Cream Social; Saturday, July 4; 1pm to 3pm; 207 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell
CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend, the Grover Cleveland Birthplace Memorial Association will host their 25th Annual July 4 Ice Cream Social. All are welcome at the gathering which will include many family activities and entertainers, along with a patriotic salute to Independence Day. Refreshments including ice cream and popcorn will be offered to guests and the Cloverleaf Tavern will also be offering meals for sale. This year, the Association is hosting a judged Short Bread bake-off which will be awarded wth prizes.
The free event will take place Rain or Shine on Saturday, July 4, from 1pm to 3pm at the historic Presidential Birthplace which is located at 207 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell.

This year, the Association is hosting a judged Short Bread bake-off which will be awarded wth prizes at 3pm. Adults and children are welcome to try their hand at creating the cookie using only 19th-century ingredients. The rules are as follows:
The flag ceremony will begin at 1pm and will include the reading of the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson and the flag raising will be performed by the scout honor guard. Caldwell’s Mayor Ann Dassing will give the welcoming remarks.

ROSELAND, NJ - This week, the Essex County Environmental Center is hosting the New Jersey Woodturners Association. Members of the group will be in Garibaldi Hall creating art from pieces of wood. New adult members are always welcome; cost is $10 per person. The meeting takes place on Monday, June 22, at 7pm, at the Center, located at 621 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland.
The monthly meetings are well attended and feature a wide selection of topics from demonstrations, to auctions, to show and tell. These meetings are a great place for both novice and experienced turners to learn and share experiences.

WEST CALDWELL, NJ - For the fourth year, West Caldwell resident Sophia Pedrazzi will be hosting "Sophia's Funds for Friends Lemonade, Art and Toy Sale" as a benefit for her friends who suffer from severe medical issues. Since the summer of 2012, Sophia has raised over $3,800 which she has completely donated to her two causes.

LIVINGSTON, NJ - This weekend the public is invited to discover the creative environment which exists at the Riker Hill Art Park. Owned by Essex County, the complex is made up of many art studios where sculpture, painting, photography, and various crafts are created daily.
On Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7, from 11am to 5pm, the artists will showcase their innovations during their Open House and Fine Art Sale. The free event will feature open studios, a gallery exhibition, demonstrations and artwork for sale all around the Art Park which is located at 284 Beaufort Avenue, Livingston.
Riker Hill Art Park sits on 42 acres which used to be a US Army Nike Missile Base in the 1950s. Essex County purchased the property from the federal government in 1974 for $1 and converted the buildings that once housed army facilities into studio space for artists. Currently, 38 artists are in residence at the Art Park.

Caldwell Merchants Association Sixth Annual "Art on the Avenue;" Saturday, May 30; 10am to 5pm; Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell
CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend, the Caldwell Merchants Association will host their sixth annual "Art on the Avenue" featuring local artists and fine art crafters exhibiting their works along Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. Additionally, musical selections will be performed on the Caldwell Green throughout the afternoon and winners of the Student Art Show, “Shop Downtown,” will be on display. Some of the local restaurants will also be offering discounts for the occasion.
The widely supported community event allows strollers to view and purchase fine art, photography, sculpture and (juried) fine art crafts while walking along both sides of Bloomfield Avenue. The free event will take place Saturday, May 30, from 10am to 5pm.
Last year fifty-eight artists participated and over $1100 in prizes were awarded in the categories of fine art, photography and sculpture after being chosen by professional judges. While many participants are well known in their fields, Art on the Avenue is open to new artists as well. There is also a student's art contest, open to all elementary through high school age students from schools in the surrounding West Essex towns.

VERONA, NJ - This weekend, the Township of Verona, along with Verona's Green Team "Sustainable Verona," will be hosting a Green Fair. The public is invited to enjoy the free event located outdoors at the Verona Civic Center. The Fair is aimed towards raising awareness about environmental issues, innovative sustainability ideas and showcasing the steps people and communities can take to sustain their quality of life over the long term.
