CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend will be the final weekend for the public to experience the outdoor "History on the Avenue" photo exhibit which has been taking place along Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. Organized by the Caldwell Merchants' Association, the Exhibit features a collection of 72 photos depicting Caldwell over the past 125 years.
The historical photos, taken during the 1890s through 2000, show the evolution of Caldwell's business district along Bloomfield Avenue, once known as "The Big Road." The collection contains photos of the turn of the century large homes and hotels from an era when the Caldwells were known as the "Denver of the East." Other photos capture the Great Fire of 1897, the trolley that ran east to Newark until 1952,
and Memorial Day parades in the early years of the twentieth century.
All of the photos are enlarged and have descriptions attached to them. Those who would like to see all of the photos are encouraged to pick up a free self-guided tour brochure available at most of the shops along the Avenue.
