Donald will be joined on the festive day by Deputy Grand Marshal Robert Lynch, of Verona; Deputy Grand Marshal Sean J. McGinley, of Kinnelon, and Deputy Grand Marshal Brad Squires, of Long Valley. Donald and his wife Lisa have two children, Marisa and Donald and although the family now resides in Roseland he has always said he has been proud to call West Orange his hometown. Born in Newark, Donald was raised by a single mother in West Orange along with his four siblings. In 1981, Donald and his wife Lisa, founded The Shauger Group, a family owned and operated contracting company. Donald, who serves as President/CED and Lisa, the Executive Vice President, established a foundation of teamwork and top notch performance which enabled The Shauger Group to thrive and grow for more than 30 years and to become one the largest private employers in the City of East Orange. ![]() Donald has served as Deputy mayor of West Orange and was Chairman of the Township of West Orange Planning Board. He presently serves on the County of Essex Workforce Investment Board and is a member of the University of Scranton Parents Executive Council. Donald is also part of the Park Avenue Club, and has served on several other Boards, such as the West Orange Recreation Advisory Board, West Orange Branch of the Team Capital Bank Board of Directors, East Orange General Hospital Foundation and the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges. ![]() Donald is frequently acknowledged for his contributions to the community. He was named 2015 Citizen of the Year by the West Orange Elks Lodge No. 1590 and in 2016 was inducted into the Colgate Park Hall of Fame on West Orange’s Old Timer’s Day for his commitment to bettering the West Orange Community and its residents. ![]() Donald is firmly committed to giving back to the community, donating money and time to countless local charities and fundraisers, including Susan G. Komen, United Negro College Fund, East Orange Education Foundation and the Newark Housing Authority Scholarship Fund. In memory of their lifelong friend, former West Orange Police Officer Timothy Groves, in 2014 Donald and Lisa established the Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship (TGMS) within the West Orange Scholarship Fund. The TGMS benefits students in financial need who, like Officer Groves, commit themselves to various charities and volunteer opportunities. The Shaugers raise money annually for the scholarship through fundraiser events. Donald and Lisa also contribute to numerous West Orange based charitable organizations including the West Orange Cow Parade, the West Orange Energy Diet, the West Orange PAL and the Codey Fund for Mental Health. The Grotto at Our Lady of Lourdes was a gift from the Shauger and Aufiero families in 2003. Donald and his friend, former NFL punter Steve Weatherford, have spearheaded many initiatives, including a donation of 1,000 smoke detectors to needy families, a luncheon to acknowledge emergency responders who save lives during Hurricane Sandy, Thanksgiving turnkey donations to families in need, and Project Prom, an annual project created to help students to overcome adversity. Through The Shauger Group, Donald consistently donates labor, equipment, and resources to various nonprofits, such as the Apostles’ House, and emergency shelter for homeless and at risk families. Included in the offerings are West Caldwell's Crane Homestead on Westville Avenue, the Grover Cleveland Birthplace in Caldwell and Kip’s Castle Park on Crestmont Road in Verona. For seven years, Essex County has hosted the self-guided Holiday House Tour so that the public can visit each site at their own pace. Each site will offer something unique, including musical entertainment, refreshments and educational programs. While most of the home tours are free, some sites require a donation for admission. Published 8:36pm ![]() ROSELAND, NJ - Roseland Boro will be hosting their fifth annual blood drive to honor the events of 9/11. Anyone interested in donating blood is invited to drop in at Borough Hall for "Roseland Remembers 9/11" on Friday, Sept. 11, between the hours of 1pm and 7pm. Prospective donors must bring with them a signed identification card or a photo ID. The event is organized each year by a committee led by Lisa Loprete-Duthie. Donors who wish to schedule a specific appointment so they can be sure they will be seen right away should call 201-251-3703. Borough Hall is located at 19 Harrison Avenue, Roseland. “I will be donating blood again this year on Friday ![]() Blood Donation Process The event will be organized by Community Blood Services which supplies blood and blood products to more than 30 hospitals in the New Jersey-New York region. The donation process includes registration, a brief medical screening, the blood collection and time for refreshments afterward. The entire time needed usually takes about one hour. Sterile disposable equipment is employed to take each donor’s blood with a brand new needle for each blood donation. There is no risk of getting any disease from giving blood; once the blood is taken, the needle is destroyed. Vaccine Waiting Period Flu, Tetanus and Lyme vaccines have no waiting period at all. There is a three day waiting period for donors who receive the Hepatitis B vaccine. There is a 30 day waiting period for those donors who have had the following vaccinations:
Medications Not Permitted Anyone on medication will need to provide its name so the healthcare professional can evaluate it. Persons who are using the following medications will not be permitted to donate blood:
Travel Restrictions Due to concerns over Malaria and Mad Cow Disease, those who have traveled to the following locations will be screened and possibly deferred:
Prior to its being used, the blood donation undergoes rigorous testing procedures. In addition to blood typing, the tests include screening for hepatitis, syphilis, and HIV. One unit of blood can be separated into red cells, platelets, and plasma and may end up going to three separate individuals:

Published 3pm NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend, the North Caldwell Fire Department is inviting the West Essex community to celebrate the recent arrival of two new members of their rescue fleet - the 2015 Pierce Rescue / Pumper "Engine No. 4" - and their new Initial Attack Vehicle. The department is hosting a "Dual Wetdown" on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 2pm to 10pm. The free event will be held at their firehouse, located at 134 Gould Avenue, North Caldwell, and all are welcome. FOOD/ DRINK COST Tickets are not required for the occasion; for those interested, food and beverages will be available for purchase. In addition, there will be entertainment from a DJ.
![]() A wetdown is a ritual celebrated by many rescue departments during which a new vehicle is put into commission by anointing it with water sprayed by another rescue apparatus. At Saturday's wetdown, the traditional hose fights are expected to take place as neighboring fire departments arrive to anoint the new engine. All guests will be able to get a closer look inside the vehicle as well. Additional, the department will be awarding prizes to the fire department which does the following:
