The evening will feature an all-you-can-eat beefsteak dinner along with entertainment from comedians. All monies raised will benefit the organization which is made up of members from Caldwell, Cedar Grove, Essex Fells, Fairfield, North Caldwell, Roseland and West Caldwell law enforcement. Presented by the Junior Woman's Club of Verona, the event will run from 9:30am to 11:30am, Saturday, Oct. 25, and all are welcome. The $5 admission, (children under 1 are free), includes children's performers and activities. All proceeds will benefit the mission of the Junior Woman's Club. "Cocktails for a Cause" is being held in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and 100 percent of all monies raised will go to support life-saving breast cancer screening, breast health and cancer education, treatment support, and survivorship programs. The event fee is $40 per person and will include Appetizers, Refreshments and an Open Bar along with many spa treatments. Published 8:46pm ![]() WEST CALDWELL, NJ - The First Presbyterian Church of Caldwell will be hosting a Blood Drive Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 3pm to 8pm. Baked goods, snacks and beverages will be provided to all those who donate. The drive will be held in the gymnasium of the church education building which is located at 326 Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. The blood drive will be administered by The Blood Center of New Jersey and donors will need to supply their social security number on their initial visit or their blood donor ID number. Donors who provide their email address will receive an email in a few days which lists their blood type and cholesterol result. "Very little changes after giving blood," a Blood Center spokesperson commented. New Jersey Requirements to Donate Blood In general, eligible donors must be in good health. Published 10:04pm ![]() VERONA, NJ - Montclair resident and 9/11 Survivor Michael Benfante will be speaking at the Verona Public Library this weekend. Benfante is best known for his heroic actions during the World Center disaster when he and a co-worker carried a disabled woman in a wheelchair down 68 flights of stairs and out of the North Tower to safety, just minutes before the tower imploded. Benfante will recount his experience when he discusses his book "Reluctant Hero: A 9/11 Hero Speaks Out About That Unthinkable Day, What He’s Learned, How He’s Struggled and What No One Should Ever Forget." The free event takes place from 3pm to 4:30pm on Sunday, Oct. 19. The library is located at 17 Gould Street, Verona. Benfante is the recipient of a host of honors and international recognition, and has testified at a US Senatorial special hearing about his 9/11 experience. Raised in Montclair, he currently lives with his wife and son in Bloomfield. He has been recognized by President George W. Bush and has appeared on Oprah, Good Morning America and CNN.
