Published 4:10pm CEDAR GROVE, NJ - This week there will be a public hearing on Cedar Grove's plan for redevelopment on Hilltop. The meeting will be held on Monday, June 1, at 7pm, in the council chambers of Town Hall, located at 525 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove. The township has asked residents to attend the meeting so that their opinions on the matter may be recorded. The development is termed "re-development" because it will be on the site of the now demolished Essex County Hospital between Fairview and Grove Avenues. Noecker Principal Laura Dacosta Contract Renewal Hearing to be Held Monday, June 1 at 7:30pm5/31/2015
Published 11:05am ROSELAND, NJ - Noecker School Principal Laura Dacosta was recently informed by the newly hired School Superintendent Lisa Gross that her contract would not be renewed for the upcoming school year. In a show of support for her continued employment, Noecker School parents are expected to turn out en masse to the school's Board of Education Meeting which will include the principal's Contract Renewal Hearing. The past two board meetings have included open comment sessions during which parents have strenuously voiced their opposition to Dacosta's termination. Signs in support of the principal have sprouted up throughout the Borough and many parents are expected to wear Noecker's school color of red to the meeting. The event takes place Saturday, May 30, from 9am to 3pm, at the drop-off area located in located in the Radiation Oncology Parking Lot at 1 Bay Avenue, Montclair. The parking lot is located next to the main entrance on Bay Avenue; one should look for event day parking signage. Donations Requested
All donated items will help the IRC provide basic supplies to newly arrived residents who fled persecution in their country of origin. ![]() WEST ORANGE, NJ - In an effort to raise money for the Barnabas Health Hospice and Palliative Care Center, "Superheroes for Hospice Charity" comic book sale will take place this weekend. Offering many different types of adult and children's comic books and graphic novels, along with related toys and t-shirts, the sale will also feature comic book creators and sketch artists. The free event will take place on Saturday, May 30 from 10am to 6pm, at the Barnabas Health Office, 95 Old Short Hills Road, West Orange. Thousands of comic books will be on sale, from Archie to Vertigo, including books for children and adults. Also on sale will be graphic novels, action figures, toys, superhero t-shirts and comics from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Scheduled to appear is a variety of comic book creators, sketch artists and caricaturists including Paul Castiglia, Paris Cullins, Stephen Coughlin, Vincent DelVecchio, Jr., Sean Douglas, Darrell "The Nightray" Goza, Michael Grassia, Alex Lowe, David E. Published 9:51pm ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - This weekend, the Caldwell Merchants Association will host their sixth annual "Art on the Avenue" featuring local artists and fine art crafters exhibiting their works along Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. Additionally, musical selections will be performed on the Caldwell Green throughout the afternoon and winners of the Student Art Show, “Shop Downtown,” will be on display. Some of the local restaurants will also be offering discounts for the occasion. The widely supported community event allows strollers to view and purchase fine art, photography, sculpture and (juried) fine art crafts while walking along both sides of Bloomfield Avenue. The free event will take place Saturday, May 30, from 10am to 5pm. Juried Artwork Last year fifty-eight artists participated and over $1100 in prizes were awarded in the categories of fine art, photography and sculpture after being chosen by professional judges. While many participants are well known in their fields, Art on the Avenue is open to new artists as well. There is also a student's art contest, open to all elementary through high school age students from schools in the surrounding West Essex towns. En Plein Air Artists Fencing is provided for artists to display their work, but several en plein air artists will be painting along the Avenue while the exhibit takes place.
