St. Thomas More Church Presents Contemporary Christian Artist Dave Pettigrew, 7pm, Saturday Feb. 7; 12 Hollywood Avenue, Fairfield
FAIRFIELD, NJ - The Youth Group of St. Thomas More Church will host a night of hope and praise when Dave Pettigrew presents contemporary Christian songs featuring a powerful message combined with strong vocals and intelligent writing.
The event will take place on Saturday, Feb. 7, beginning at 7pm. Admission is free, but donations would be gratefully accepted; refreshments will also be available. The church is located at 12 Hollywood Avenue, Fairfield.
A graduate of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Pettigrew now lives in New Jersey and often performs along the Eastern Seaboard. He says that his multiple releases are a look into his life and a walk with God, and his music are songs for the everyday person, people who struggle with their faith, but want to know more.

CALDWELL, NJ - The Pirrello Family, of Caldwell and West Caldwell, are hosting a fundraiser for their family member, Joseph Pirrello, who is suffering from a debilitating illness. They have organized a benefit to be held on Saturday, Jan. 24. at the Ringside Pub, from 2pm to 8pm, located at 379 Bloomfield Avenue, Caldwell.
However, due to weather constraints, his children Michele Pirrello O'Dell, Michael Pirrello, and Nicole Pirrello Gonzalez, created a virtual fundraiser page so that people will be able to donate to their cause online. The link is available online here.

ROSELAND / ESSEX FELLS, NJ - The 6th Annual Running 4 Answers 5K Race and 2-mile Fun Run / Fitness Walk will take place the last Saturday in April and registration is now open for participants. Both runners and walkers are needed for the event which begins at 8:30am on Saturday, April 25 and all money raised will benefit the “Cure Alzheimer’s Fund.”
Started by two Roseland women, Carolyn Mastrangelo and Barbara Geiger, the USATF-NJ sanctioned and certified race and 2-mile fun run/fitness walk provides participants with 500 Grand Prix points and is chip-timed. It will take place rain or shine beginning at the Roseland Municipal Building located at 19 Harrison Avenue Roseland.
Personal trainer and race co-director Mastrangelo first conceived of the competition in 2009 because she could not find any other race benefiting Alzheimer’s disease.

According to the race founders, all proceeds benefit the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund; last year the local race raised $40,000 and over the past five years it has raised a total of $175,000. The mission of the fund is to put all dollars raised towards research and so far that research has identified more than 70 genes linked to the disease. According to its website, one hundred percent of all funds raised for the Cure Alzheimer’s Fund go directly towards researching a cure for Alzheimers. So far the group has donated over $15 million to research in twenty-four different institutions across the country and all research studies done are shared among the participating medical research institutions.

Racers and walkers will be passing through “the beautiful tree-lined, rolling hill streets of historic Essex Fells, NJ,” detailed Geiger. Parking is available at the Roseland Municipal Building, as well as the Calvary Evangelical Free Church on Fells Road and the Roseland Free Public Library.
Those who choose to take a more leisurely and shorter route are encouraged to participate in the two mile long Fun Run / Fitness Walk.
Mastrangelo’s mother started showing signs of the disease by age fifty-five.

Essential Oils for the Cold and Flu Season, 7pm to 8pm, Thursday, Jan. 22; Essex County Environmental Center, 621 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland
ROSELAND, NJ - On Thursday, Jan. 22, the Essex County Environmental Center will be hosting an educational session on the benefits of Essential Oils for the Cold and Flu Season. The event will take place from 7pm to 8pm at their center, located at 621 Eagle Rock Avenue, Roseland.
The class is geared for adults and children over the age of 13. The educator will demonstrate using 100% plant-based essential oils as natural and effective remedies against winter illnesses.
