WEST CALDWELL, NJ - At noon Saturday, a group of people gathered outside the West Essex First Aid Squad building in West Caldwell for the live drawing of the West Essex Policemen’s Benevolent Association raffle of a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA 250. Over 500 tickets - priced at $100 each - were sold; one lucky winner from Nutley soon received a call that they were the winner of the new car valued at $35,385.

Annually, the West Essex PBA’s Civic Association donates money for college scholarships to deserving local students who attend one of the three local high schools served by officers of the West Essex PBA. In the past ten years, over $100,000 has been donated to scholars who attend James Caldwell, West Essex and Cedar Grove High Schools. This year, seven students selected were selected to each receive a $1,500 scholarship award.
On hand for the occasion was the West Essex PBA Local #81 President and Roseland Police Officer Dave Courter, along with Clinton Vail, a representative from the Globe Motor Car Company, in Fairfield, who donated the vehicle.

Over 500 tickets were shuffled and then Courter pulled out a ticket and made Donna Fermato, of Nutley, one very lucky woman. Courter placed a call to the winner soon after; she answered and was in disbelief that the car was now hers.
"The West Essex PBA is very grateful to the public for supporting us in our fundraising effort," Courter said. "We sold over 500 tickets - the winning one was sold by Sergeant Eileen O'Toole of the Cedar Grove Police Department so thank you to Sgt. O'Toole as well. This is a very worthy project and we congratulate all of the 2014 scholarship recipients and wish them the very best."
