This morning at about 6:36am, Fairfield Police responded to a report of a man bleeding severely outside of KZY Logistics trucking business located on Commerce Road.
According to Fairfield Police Chief Anthony Manna, the first officers to respond located Bryan Tay, 40, of Paterson, in the rear of the building in the area of the tractor trailers. Tay was reportedly bleeding severely from his abdomen from what appeared to be a knife wound. Tay was alert and conscious and reported to the officers that he had been stabbed by a co-worker who officers later determined to be Alptug Akkus, 29, of Paterson, who had left the area. Area police were notified. West Essex First Aid Squad was dispatched and treated Tay at the scene and then transported him to Morristown Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. At 8:51am, Montclair Police notified Fairfield that Akkus was in Mountainside Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries that he allegedly sustained during the earlier incident in Fairfield. After Fairfield detectives Lieutenant Charles Zampino and Sergeant Jeffrey Didyk today reviewed video footage from the parking lot as well as the statement from Akkus and determined that both Tay and Akkus are truck drivers for KZY Logistics whose dispute erupted after an incident which took place while both were working in Arizona earlier this week. ASSAULT According to Manna, this morning Akkus came to the company’s parking lot to return his tractor, and Tay was reportedly there waiting for him hiding behind a car, armed with a wooden plank. On the tape viewed by police, Akkus can be seen emerging from his truck and Tay reportedly began striking him with the plank. During the assault, Akkus allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Tay once in what police describe as self-defense. CHARGES The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted and authorized the following charges against Bryan Tay:
Tay was arrested at Mountainside, served with his complaints and was released from police custody on his own recognizance pending a hearing in the Superior Court in Newark. No charges have been filed against Akkus. FAIRFIELD Based HYPNOTIST ROBERT BRUCKNER CHARGED WITH SEXUAL ASSAULT AND CHILD ENDANGERMENT10/1/2020
