NORTH CALDWELL, NJ - While Michael Esposito awaits his 39-month jail term for Fraud, he reportedly found time to steal two golf carts from the Green Brook Country Club this weekend.
According to North Caldwell Police Chief Mark Deuer, Esposito, 45, of North Caldwell, along with an unidentified 14-year-old male, broke into the Club's garage by forcing open the side door and drove away in the two carts.
The club manager alerted North Caldwell Police at 10:20pm Saturday night after two employees witnessed the thefts and began to chase after the drivers on foot.
According to Deuer, Esposito and the young teen attempted to drive both carts away, but Esposito was injured after his own cart stuck in the woods and was damaged.
Chased by the employees, Esposito and the teen then drove the other cart home to his Central Avenue address, which is opposite the country club, and then ran into the house. When the employees attempted to confront him by ringing the bell, there was no response from Esposito or the teen who hid inside.
Investigating officers obtained the surveillance video from inside the golf cart garage and were able to identify Esposito. The officers responded to his Central Avenue home and in the course of arresting him, were subject to threats he made against them and their families.
