Bongiorno announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Caldwell Police Department are investigating a fatal stabbing. On Sunday, Feb. 26, a young man was fatally stabbed in an apartment above a business he shared with other men in the 400 block of Bloomfield Avenue in Caldwell. The name of the victim is not being released at this time because his identity has not been formally confirmed and next of kin have not been notified. It is believed that the victim is from Guatemala and was living and working in Caldwell. The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicates this was not a stranger to stranger attack. The victim and the attacker are believed to have known one another. At this time no arrests have been made. The investigation is active and ongoing. Additional information will be released as it becomes available. by Carolyne Volpe Curley / Carolyne@WestEssexNOW.com Published 4:30pm ![]() NEWARK, NJ - Khalil Wheeler-Weaver, 20, of Orange, was indicted this afternoon for the individual murders of three women whose deaths occurred this past Fall. Wheeler-Weaver was also charged for the attempted murder of a fourth woman who survived the attack. The indictment also charges Wheeler-Weaver with three counts of desecrating human remains. Assistant Prosecutor Adam B. Wells, who is handling the case, said, Wheeler-Weaver has been charged with the following:

It is alleged that Wheeler-Weaver’s interactions with the victims were all of a sexual nature. No further information is available at this time.
by Carolyne Volpe Curley / Carolyne@WestEssexNOW.com Published 6:10am ![]() FAIRFIELD, NJ - Fairfield Police Chief Anthony Manna announced that William Renfro, 51, of Hoboken, was arrested for possession of heroin, possession of heroin with intent to distribute and possession of heroin within a school zone on Wednesday, Feb. 22. Renfro is believed to have advertised heroin sales on Craig’s List with ads entitled “Super Fire Dogfood Dope-$60." He allegedly agreed to meet undercover detectives on Wednesday in Fairfield to sell 50 glassine envelopes containing heroin. At about 11:30am on Wednesday, Renfro reportedly arrived in his 2011 Honda at Target store, at which time, officers converged on his location. Further investigation by Fairfield Police, assisted by the Drug Enforcement Administration’s HIDTA Task Force, revealed 61 glassine envelopes containing suspected heroin and approximately $385 in cash. Police seized the suspected contraband, currency and the suspect’s vehicle while Renfro was arrested and processed. He was eventually released on his own recognizance pending an appearance in the Superior Court in Newark. |
