Yesterday, Verona Detective Lieutenant Timothy Banta and Verona Detective Joel Martin arrested Maria Circelli, 45, of Newark in connection with 3 daytime residential burglaries that occurred last week in Verona. Also assisting in the investigation were Verona Detective TJ Conroy and Verona Officer Edward Ruff.
BURGLARY INVESTIGATION Circelli is believed to have walked around the Verona neighborhoods and knock on doors of homes that had no cars in the driveway. Verona Police report that last week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Circelli entered three homes during the day:
THEFT ALLEGATIONS Verona Police assert that once inside the homes, Circelli searched for jewelry and "interactive internet speakers" which she then stole. At this time the police continue to locate and retrieve the stolen property. CIRCELLI'S CHARGES

After months of service with the department, Fairfield Special Police Officer Paul Cory Perrette was officially sworn into duty yesterday by Mayor James Gasparini.
Perrette graduated in 2019 from the University of North Carolina with a degree in Criminal Justice and in December was hired by the Fairfeld Police. He entered the Passaic County Police Academy on Jan. 7 and he has served the township throughout the pandemic. The academy's very simple 2020 graduation ceremony, without family and friends, took place on Aug. 6. Fairfield Police Chief Anthony G. Manna: |

In case you missed this:
Last Tuesday morning, Aug. 11 at 9am, a Paterson resident called Police after she saw what appeared to her to be an Ostrich running through her Hillcrest neighborhood. Animal Control responded and were finally able to get the 4-foot tall Emu into a large crate in Totowa. Chief Animal Control Officer John DeCando stated the Emu appeared healthy, “but I can tell you it needs a bath." The Emu was transported to Franklin Lakes Animal Hospital which had already arranged for a caretaker, following the vet examination. DeCando reported that while he had never before seen an Emu, he had at one time seen an Elephant running down the street. |
