This afternoon, Governor Phil Murphy abruptly pulled out of a press conference at Camden County Community College after being informed by staff that a person he was in close contact with had tested positive. The governor, who is 63 and had cancerous tumors removed from his kidneys in March, last tested negative on Monday. In the middle of the press event which began today at 12:10pm, the governor made the following comment:
"I was just informed by my colleagues that I was in close proximity to someone on Saturday who has just tested Positive. I tested on Monday (unrelated to my being in proximity, because I had no idea until just five minutes ago) and it was Negative. I will now unfortunately have to take myself off the field. I can’t ask President Trump not to come to Bedminster and do a fundraiser and have me sit here. I have no symptoms, again I tested negative on Monday, but I've got to go and take myself at least off the field, and get tested again today. As you all know if I was with someone Saturday night and you get tested Sunday morning that doesn’t really tell you a lot. You got to wait and see to make sure there isn’t any incubating so I apologize….thanks everybody, take care.” |

The White House confirms tonight that Donald and Melania Trump will be quarantined following a diagnosis of Covid19. Their results follow Thursday night's announcement that senior aide Hope Hicks who has traveled multiple times with the president this week has tested positive as well. |
The President's last appearance was in New Jersey yesterday afternoon. He briefly attended a fundraiser at his golf course in Bedminster and flew out of Morristown Airport at 4:40pm.
White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows confirmed today that the President and Staff were aware of Hope Hick's testing positive once he boarded Marine One at Morristown Airport, prior to attending fundraiser yesterday. Governor Murphy has asked that anyone who worked at or attended the event be tested. Trump's Bedminster fundraiser included a contest which awarded the winner with trip to a New Jersey hotel, attendance at the event, and a photograph with the president.

The President's Schedule this past week:
Monday:
THURSDAY
FRIDAY
|
Statement from White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows:
"In terms of Hope Hicks, we discovered that right as the Marine One was taking off yesterday. We actually hold some of the people had been traveling and in close contact. The reason why it was reported out frankly, we started to contact tracing just prior to that event. As you know last night even in the early hours of this morning, the minute we got a confirmatory test of the president we felt like it was important to get the news out there at the time, and so that's why we sent out this tweet late, late action early this morning." |
From Governor Murphy:
"We urge everyone who attended yesterday's event in Bedminster to take full precautions, including self-quarantining and getting tested for Covid-19" |
