Published 5:20pm ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - The family of Hugh Albanesius have announced that he passed away on Friday, at the age of 68. Albanesius was a vital member of the West Essex High School community as well as an active member of the Essex County Athletic Directors Association. Family and friends are deeply saddened by their loss and will mourn his absence. Born in Glen Ridge, Hugh was a lifelong resident of Caldwell and West Caldwell. He graduated in 1964 from James Caldwell High School and earned his teaching degree from Trenton State College in 1968 where he was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity. For 11 years, Hugh was employed by the West Essex Regional Board of Education as a mechanical and architectural drawing teacher and was the varsity soccer coach and freshman baseball coach for 13 years. In 1980, he became Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds at West Essex, where he worked until retiring in 2002. Hugh was a member of the New Jersey Education Association and locally was an active member of the Essex County Athletic Directors Association, where he served the group as treasurer. For several years, Hugh volunteered his time coaching the Caldwell-West Caldwell Recreation Grade 7 and 8 Girls Softball Team and for13 years was the scorekeeper for the Pompton Lakes High School Varsity Softball Team which is coached by his daughter. He was honored in 1989 when the New Jersey Soccer Coaches Association inducted him into the Hall of Fame. Hugh's Family Surviving Hugh are:
