CEDAR GROVE OFFICER RAYMOND CASSELLA INITIATES STOP WHICH LED TO STOLEN CAR chase and three arrests
Thursday, Feb. 28
On Wednesday, Cedar Grove Police arrested one adult male and two juveniles males after a police pursuit of a truck which had been reported stolen out of New York. The chase was initiated by Cedar Grove Officer Raymond Cassella and involved numerous local, county and state agencies. It ended successfully with the arrests of the males who were located inside of the Little Falls Shop Rite. |
Details:
Cedar Grove Police Department
973-239-4100
- On Wednesday, Feb. 27, at 3:55pm, Cassella was in the process of pulling over a 2018 Chevy Silverado U-Haul Rental Truck, which had briefly stopped at Commerce Road, Cedar Grove
- As Cassella walked over to the truck, the driver reportedly sped off into Little Falls
- Cassella returned to his vehicle and pursued the truck, eventually pulling into the Little Falls ShopRite parking lot, located on Browertown Road. The truck continued driving, however, through a fence and into the wooded area behind the store, in the area of Passaic Valley High School
- Cassella reported that once the car was disabled, three occupants got out of it and started running on foot.
- At the same time, an alert went out to all area police, including the newly formed West Essex Police Task Force that the U-Haul had been reported stolen out of New York.
- Mutual aid was enlisted from Little Falls, West Paterson, the New Jersey State Police and the Passaic County Sheriff's Department
- Eventually, Passaic County K-9 were able to locate the three suspects inside of the ShopRite itself and officers put them under arrest.
- Each were charged with:
- possession of a stolen motor vehicle
- attempting to elude officers.
- possession of a stolen motor vehicle
