Winner Claims One Million Dollar Prize from Instant Lottery Ticket Sold at R&K Food Store, Grove Avenue, Verona
VERONA, NJ - For the second time in less than three months, R & K Food Store, located at 24 Grove Avenue, in Verona, has sold a winning lottery ticket. In October, a winner won third place in the MegaMillions drawing and received a $5,000 prize. This time - the prize was even more substantial. New Jersey Lottery Executive Director Carole Hedinger announced Friday that Carolyn D. bought a scratch off "Holiday Gold" instant lottery game and won the $1 million grand prize.
“I’ve been playing for 30 years, since I was 18,”
Carolyn said that she bought the ticket at R&K Food Store on her deceased father's birthday and made the winning claim on her own birthday. She chose the annuity prize so that she will have some financial security in her retirement.
A minimum of 30 percent of New Jersey Lottery game revenue is contributed to the state on behalf of state education and vital institutions. This month, instant ticket sales contributed more than $32 million towards those causes bringing the Fiscal Year 2015 total to nearly $172 million.
