![]() CALDWELL, NJ - Caldwell University has received accreditation for its Mental Health Counseling / Art Therapy graduate program. The endorsement has come from the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP); it makes the university the first CACREP-accredited art therapy program in the nation. With the addition of this accreditation, all of the programs in the university’s Psychology and Counseling Department have received CACREP approval; the Master of Arts in School Counseling and the Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling had already received the accreditation. The coordinator of the university’s art therapy programs, Marie Wilson, Ph.D., ATR-BC, ATCS, ACS, LPC, and professor in the Department of Psychology and Counseling, said that the university was thrilled to learn the news. “It was a very rigorous application, ![]() Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs Recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, CACREP is a specialized accrediting body. Graduate-Level Art Therapy Caldwell University remains the first and only institution in New Jersey to offer graduate-level training in art therapy and one of the few programs in the region that prepare students to be dually-credentialed as both a counselor and as an art therapist. The program is approved by the American Art Therapy Association, meets educational requirements for registration and practice as an art therapist and is approved by the New Jersey Professional Counselor Examiners Committee. It also meets educational requirements for students to become a licensed professional counselor in New Jersey. Led by their orientation leaders, members of the Class of 2018 were introduced to five eateries throughout the borough. Published 5:30am ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - Caldwell University has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation's New Paths to Professional Nursing initiative. The grant is specifically designed to address the future nursing shortage by providing assistance to aspiring nursing students. The monies will be available to Caldwell University nursing students, working at St. Joseph's Hospital, who are in need of financial, academic, and social support as they complete the prerequisite natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities coursework required for the baccalaureate nursing programs by fall 2016. The school is partnering with the St. Joseph’s Healthcare System so that those students who work at St. Joseph’s may be able to complete the first two years of their liberal arts and science studies before entering nursing clinical courses. Caldwell’s Director of Nursing Dr. MaryCarol Rossignol said the university is delighted to partner with St. Joseph's. The grant program, she explained, will enhance and advance baccalaureate learning for a select cohort of St. Joseph’s paraprofessional employees who would otherwise lack the means and resources to enroll in a private institution of higher learning. “Working together, we can meet the needs of the students to strengthen ![]() St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center, which includes St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital, has received Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for the fourth consecutive time since 1999. Nagle-Girgenti explained that an important aspect of the grant is that existing staff RNs at St. Joseph's will act as mentors to the chosen students in order to give them support and assistance in the workplace in addition to their work at the university. ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - July 1 marks a milestone. After 75 years operating as Caldwell College, as of today, the institution is now named Caldwell University. President Nancy Blattner, Ph.D., received official notification from the New Jersey secretary of higher education on Dec. 9 that the college’s petition to change its official name to Caldwell University had been approved. The institution chose to wait to officially roll out its new status at the start of the 2014-15 fiscal year to have time to prepare the marketing and signage materials and on July 1, the university officially rolled out its new name and logo. “It is a new day and thrilling for all of us, ![]() The new logo campaign focuses on “a defining moment" according to Joseph Posillico, vice president of enrollment management and communications, who led the creation of the university logo and marketing materials. “This is certainly a defining moment in many ways for Caldwell,” There are a number of benefits to the name change, said Blattner, including that for “students who want to go on to graduate school or who graduate from one of our master’s or doctoral programs, there is prestige in graduating from a university.” And most important, she said, “is that the university is still committed to its Catholic identity and Dominican heritage and its core values of respect, integrity, community and excellence.” Caldwell recently announced the addition of the new doctoral programs, an Ed.D. and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. The program, which was approved by the New Jersey Office of Higher Education, is designed to meet the needs of school leaders, teachers or those in organizational leadership. The initial cohort will begin in the fall of 2014. The doctoral students will choose from one of the three concentrations for an Ed.D. or a Ph.D.: K-12 Leadership, Special Education Leadership or Higher Education Leadership. ![]() CALDWELL, NJ - CALDWELL, NJ - For the third year, Caldwell College will be offering its week long Summer Percussion Camp, Monday through Friday, July 14 to 18, at 9am to 4pm each day. The camp is directed by Adjunct Music Professor Alex Bocchino and is open to students age 12 and up; no formal audition is required. Students will develop new tools and ideas to carry them forward in their musical studies and the week will end with a Friday afternoon public performance. Camp size is limited, so early registration is recommended. In addition, before the camp takes place, a “Broadway Rocks” weekend will offer an extended opportunity for drummers, guitarists and bassists to further their musical skills and to perform as an ensemble. It will be held July 11 to 13, on Friday from 6pm to 9pm, Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sunday 1pm to 4pm. There will be placement auditions for “Broadway Rocks” on Friday evening. Bocchino is a professional percussionist who has performed at Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, NJPAC as well as at Harvard, Columbia and Princeton Universities.
