![]() WEST ESSEX, NJ - On Saturday, Camp Wyanokie will be hosting their 11th Annual Great Wyanokie Outing. The old-fashioned picnic by the five-acre lake will feature a fishing derby, free barbecue, children's activities, guided hikes and live music. Registration is needed in advance for the fishing derby and the barbecue lunch. In case of rain, the outing will be held on Sunday. Fishing Derby 9am to 11am Participants just need to bring a rod and reel along with a bucket for catch and release. Check in starts at 8am and the contest is from 9am to 11am. All participants will receive a prize. Dr. Paul Scollo,of Fairfield, will help with catching big bass, pickerel, crappie, catfish and bluegills. Pre-registratio is necessary for the fishing contest; register online here. ![]() Children's Activities 11am to 3pm Besides the wonders of nature which children will enjoy like turning over a rock and finding a salamander, picking wild blueberries by the lake, spotting animal tracks, or discovering unusual rocks, town recreation department staff will be on hand to provide games and contests for the kids during the day including cherry pit spitting, a Hula Hoop Contest, shuttle races and the Wolf Howling/Bear Growling Contest. ![]() Guided Hike 11am to 3pm Throughout the day, guided hikes will be led by Camp Wyanokie Association member Todd Barnes. Highlights include the gorgeous views and wild blueberries. Live Music 11:30am to 3pm Classic and mellow rock will be performed by the Chris Bolger Quartet. ![]() Barbecue Lunch 12:30pm A free lunch will be prepared on Saturday by Wyanokie commission volunteers.
