Donald will be joined on the festive day by Deputy Grand Marshal Robert Lynch, of Verona; Deputy Grand Marshal Sean J. McGinley, of Kinnelon, and Deputy Grand Marshal Brad Squires, of Long Valley. Donald and his wife Lisa have two children, Marisa and Donald and although the family now resides in Roseland he has always said he has been proud to call West Orange his hometown. Born in Newark, Donald was raised by a single mother in West Orange along with his four siblings. In 1981, Donald and his wife Lisa, founded The Shauger Group, a family owned and operated contracting company. Donald, who serves as President/CED and Lisa, the Executive Vice President, established a foundation of teamwork and top notch performance which enabled The Shauger Group to thrive and grow for more than 30 years and to become one the largest private employers in the City of East Orange. ![]() Donald has served as Deputy mayor of West Orange and was Chairman of the Township of West Orange Planning Board. He presently serves on the County of Essex Workforce Investment Board and is a member of the University of Scranton Parents Executive Council. Donald is also part of the Park Avenue Club, and has served on several other Boards, such as the West Orange Recreation Advisory Board, West Orange Branch of the Team Capital Bank Board of Directors, East Orange General Hospital Foundation and the Metropolitan YMCA of the Oranges. ![]() Donald is frequently acknowledged for his contributions to the community. He was named 2015 Citizen of the Year by the West Orange Elks Lodge No. 1590 and in 2016 was inducted into the Colgate Park Hall of Fame on West Orange’s Old Timer’s Day for his commitment to bettering the West Orange Community and its residents. ![]() Donald is firmly committed to giving back to the community, donating money and time to countless local charities and fundraisers, including Susan G. Komen, United Negro College Fund, East Orange Education Foundation and the Newark Housing Authority Scholarship Fund. In memory of their lifelong friend, former West Orange Police Officer Timothy Groves, in 2014 Donald and Lisa established the Timothy Groves Memorial Scholarship (TGMS) within the West Orange Scholarship Fund. The TGMS benefits students in financial need who, like Officer Groves, commit themselves to various charities and volunteer opportunities. The Shaugers raise money annually for the scholarship through fundraiser events. Donald and Lisa also contribute to numerous West Orange based charitable organizations including the West Orange Cow Parade, the West Orange Energy Diet, the West Orange PAL and the Codey Fund for Mental Health. The Grotto at Our Lady of Lourdes was a gift from the Shauger and Aufiero families in 2003. Donald and his friend, former NFL punter Steve Weatherford, have spearheaded many initiatives, including a donation of 1,000 smoke detectors to needy families, a luncheon to acknowledge emergency responders who save lives during Hurricane Sandy, Thanksgiving turnkey donations to families in need, and Project Prom, an annual project created to help students to overcome adversity. Through The Shauger Group, Donald consistently donates labor, equipment, and resources to various nonprofits, such as the Apostles’ House, and emergency shelter for homeless and at risk families.
