indictment against him which charged him with committing multiple sexual acts on various occasions against a child. Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced the arrest today and detailed that her office believes that the sexual assaults occurred between December 2008 and August 2014 in both Essex and Cape May Counties.
According to Murray, Siclari worked for the Roseland School District in a "Non-teaching" capacity. Sources tell West Essex Now that Siclari was employed as the Senior Custodian at Noecker and was since placed on leave, as determined at the last Board of Education meeting in July.
The Prosecutor's Office has informed WEN that NONE of the incidents occurred on school grounds.
The Roseland Superintendent, Lisa Gross, emailed a letter to concerned parents:
July 31, 2015
Dear Noecker Families,
We enjoyed a terrific summer school session and extend our congratulations to all our students, parents, and staff who helped make this such a wonderful learning experience for all. I can’t believe August is coming so soon. As we shift our focus toward the opening of school and to help keep everyone informed, I would like to keep you updated on some of our personnel changes.
Mr. David Siclari, head custodian, is on a leave of absence until further notice. To eliminate any misinformation or rumor, it is important to know that his leave of absence is un-related to his position at Noecker School. While he is on leave, we are fortunate to have Mr. Tom August who will provide the experienced leadership needed to support our beautiful school and its facilities. Mr. August and his team have already assured us we are on schedule and will be fully prepared for a smooth opening of school. We extend our appreciation to them for their dedication and we will be interviewing qualified candidates to provide additional support during this time.
Two additional staff members will be on a short-term leave during the 2015-2016 school year. Mrs. Lee DeVita, Supervisor of Special Services, will be on a leave from July 28, 2015 to December 23, 2015, and Mrs. Kathleen Shelley, School Social Worker, will be on leave from September 1, 2015 to October 16, 2015. In order to provide services for our students, we anticipate having qualified interims in place for both positions. Our best wishes go out to our staff members, who contribute so much to our district and we look forward to their return.
In addition to the August Board of Education meeting, please save the date for you and your children to come on Tuesday, August 18th at 7:00 PM to Noecker School to meet and welcome our interim principal, Mr. Larry Hughes, our Technology Supervisor, Katherine Thorn, and our School Business Administrator, Jason Bohm.
Enjoy the remainder of summer with friends and family and please continue to gently encourage the benefits of summer reading and other skills to help promote recall, critical thinking, and readiness for the exciting upcoming year. As always please call 973-226-7644 or contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
Regards, Lisa Gross
