FAIRFIELD, NJ - At about 12:05am this morning, Fairfield Fire Department , Fairfield Police, State Police and West Essex First Aid Squad, responded to Route 80 East, near Exit 47-A (Route 280 exit) for reports of a fully engulfed tractor trailer fire. All lanes of eastbound Route 80 were closed at the time.
According to Fire Chief Tim Connolly, one firefighter whose name will be kept private, received a minor injury to his leg when a hose burst from the fire truck. He was treated at the scene by WEFAS staff.
Connolly reported that the truck was carrying blueberries. Firefighters, along with mutual assistance for water from Pine Brook Fire Department, were still unloading the truck's content at 3am, while continuing to extinguish the fire.
The scene was finally cleared at 6:50am.
