Published 7:07pm FAIRFIELD, NJ - On Wednesday at about 6:20pm, the Fairfield Fire Department and West Essex First Aid Squad responded to Route 46 East where a multi-vehicle accident shut down the area near the ramp for Home Depot. ![]() The investigation into the accident is ongoing; two cars and a tractor trailer truck were involved. One four-door car, shown at right, was totaled to such an extent that the back seat was unrecognizable. According to Deputy Fire Chief Tim Connolly, a person was trapped inside one of the vehicles and needed to be extricated from the car. All injured passengers were transferred to the hospital by the First Aid Squad. Nutley Hazmat and an agent from the Department of Environmental Protection also responded to remove vehicle fluid which had run off into a storm drain. The spill was contained and will continue to be monitored. Comments are closed.
